I'm in my new apartment! It's nice and spacious. Of course, the only furniture I have at the moment is a beanbag chair and a folding chair. But I have a ton of liquid soap thanks to a sale at Bath and Body Works. Meh, I need to get some furniture. I should be able to get one of two possible beds.
It's thundering. I hope there's a storm. Ooo, I just saw pretty lightning... but I didn't hear any thunder afterwards. There's a cool breeze coming in the balcony door. And more thunder! Ok, I'll stop. We all know how storms proceed.
Hmm, what else do I have to say? Well, the job is going fine. It's surprisingly not as boring as I expected, but maybe it will get more and more boring as I get more and more used to it. But I get a 10% discount, which is nice. I've only used it once, but I plan to use it to buy an air mattress.
I don't know how many people I've told, but there is this great song that you should listen to and appreciate. Sometimes I hear songs and I fall in love immediately. There was Maria durch ein Dornwald ging around Christmas and Bed of Lies sometime in this past year, and my sophomore year it was Be My Escape. Well, on my way to Pennsylvania I discovered another one: Aicha by Khaled. It is mostly in French, although there are a couple lines in Arabic (the singer is from Algeria and this style of music is called 'Rai'). It's a love song and I love it. My favorite part is: Je dirai les mots des poemes Je jouerai les musiques du ciel Je prendrai les rayons du soleil Pour eclairer tes yeux de reine The spelling may or may not be correct because I got this off some lyrics website. I watched the music video on YouTube, and even though the singer is creepy with his weird earring and old-man mustache, when he sings those previously mentioned four lines (1:44), my heart beats faster and I begin to think that he's not so repulsive after all.
Lately, I've been reading the fifth Harry Potter in German. When I really get into a book in German, I find (not surprisingly) that German becomes much more present in my thoughts. I'm more apt to think or even speak unintentionally in German. But what is especially fun is that random words or short phrases (mostly that I don't know what they mean) will completely randomly pop into my head and continue to pop to the front of my thoughts. There were two such words last night when I was trying to fall asleep, but I couldn't remember them this morning.
I saw Sex and the City in the theater with Tina last weekend and I enjoyed it. This has caused me to start watching the TV show on the internet. It's entertaining and sometimes makes me laugh out loud. Crude and explicit, but funny.
My orientation for my minimum-wage job was today. It shouldn't be hard, but I'm still afraid that I'll mess up. That's why I want to work for myself. I don't have to worry about being an idiot, I can make my own rules, and I can create my own schedule. But I would also settle for teaching German.
So go and listen to Aicha again and appreciate its wonderfulness.
American guy: Could you stamp my passport, please? It's a hobby of mine. Passport checker to coworker, in German: These damn Americans always want something. Look, they've all got booze and bags and t-shirts. Now they want stamps. American girl: Sir, I'd like mine stamped, too. Passport checker, in German: I bet that girl was here to fuck guys. American girls become sluts in Europe. American girl: Sir, that's not very nice! Passport checker, still in German: I hate it when they know German. Then we can't talk about them!

I discovered that thing on that website about a week ago, and I found it quite amusing.
Apparently, I have a new apartment! It's between Ypsi and AA (but with an Ypsi address), and it's nice. The lease starts in late June even though my lease here goes until sometime in August because it was cheaper that way ($70 less per month). I also got a bunch of special deals because work for one of the 'preferred employers' and I saw the apartment on a specific website. AND the first month's rent is free. I ended up getting so much money towards this place that it even carried over to my August rent and made that less than normal. I am not complaining. And it has a pool!
I guess it's kind of nice that my leases overlap for a little bit because then I can move in on my own schedule, without rushing. And I have no furniture at the moment. We will probably be able to hook me up with a bed, but if anyone has any extra furniture that they want to donate, I would be more than happy to take it off your hands.
...And I'm back in Ann Arbor. It's warm, but I have my wonderful remote-controlled fan. I got back in two hours. Now I'm watching The Producers. And I'm tired.
My party was nice. People came. People ate. People talked. It was nice.
