My life is just way too dramatic sometimes.
Well, well, well. Life does not stay boring for long, does it? On Sunday, I went into the emergency room with severe stomach pain and heartburn-like chest pain. After multiple tests and one wonderful liquid remedy, I was told it was probably reflux and sent home. Two days later, I took Nidhal to work and then when I got home, the pain started again, this time with back pain. I thought, it's just reflux so I'll try to ignore the incredible pain and go about my day. As I was driving to my appointment with the allergist, I suddenly got so lightheaded that I thought I was going to pass out. I called 911, pulled over, and was taken to the hospital again. The pain continued, and the doctor said that it was probably just the reflux again, but they would do a CT scan to rule out some other things. He came back after the test and said that my gallbladder was inflamed and that the surgeons would have to take a look at it. A little later, this guy who looked maybe 15 years old showed up, poked around my abdomen, and said they were going to do an ultrasound so they could compare it to the one that was done on Sunday. A while after that was done, the young looking guy and two other surgeons showed up and said that they were going to admit me to the hospital and take out my gallbladder in the morning. Well ok then.
And yesterday, I had the second surgery of my life. They were tricky with the anesthesia this time. With my first surgery, they told me they were giving it to me and then had me count backwards from 100. This time, the anesthesia nurse said it was oxygen and to breathe really deeply... and that's the last thing I remember from the operating room. The first thing I remember from waking up was maybe someone saying my name and then a wet washcloth being stuck in my mouth. I opened my eyes and I was probably in a room where they take people after surgery. I was quite groggy and was drifting in and out. I got a few ice chips here and there, but it didn't help with the dry mouth. When I was being wheeled back up to the room, I rubbed my finger on my tongue and it came back bone dry. And now it's over 24 hours later, I'm in pain, but I'm home and thankful to see my little baby again. Needless to say, this week definitely did not go as expected.
The bad thing is, we're not sure if it was the gallbladder that was causing this pain. The doctor said there is maybe a 75% chance that it was the gallbladder. But apparently, whether it was the cause of the pain or not, it needed to come out. She said if it wouldn't have been now, it would've needed to be taken out in a week to 10 days. So here I am minus one gallbladder and in pain (but not as much pain as when I went into the ER). Now, it's time for a nap.
