Mother's Day?

Do you have any idea how expensive it is to have a child in this country?  And by have a child, I mean be pregnant and give birth.  I was looking at the bills from the pregnancy and birth, and we're talking in the tens of thousands.  Yes, no joke, tens of thousands.  Upwards of $30,000 including prenatal care and the birth at the hospital.  And then my trip to the emergency room?  Over $3,000.  Seriously, thank God that we had health coverage.  People can not survive without health insurance, and I sincerely hope that the Obamacare makes health insurance attainable for everyone in this country.  When I was working on my Master's and had no insurance whatsoever, I began having strange abdominal pains.  It could've been anything, but I had to decide if it seemed serious enough to go to the doctor.  And then, I was afraid that it was in fact something serious because then it would be a pre-existing condition.  I waited over a year, I think, before I went to the doctor, and only then because I had to go to the doctor for something else.  Thankfully, the doctors didn't find anything wrong, but it could have easily gone the other way.

Happy May!  April was an interesting month and contained what I'm sure will remain one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, but it's nice to move on to May.  However, the fact that it is now May only reinforces the fact that my garden has not been touched at all this year.  I need someone to come plant some flowers for me.  Any takers?  I'm too busy and too tired to do it.  My wonderful, underappreciated husband is always exhausted.  His mother is too old and sick to do anything.  Speaking of help, does anyone want to come vacuum my floors?  It's really only the downstairs that needs it.  The upstairs bathroom needs cleaning, too.  Neither the floors nor the bathroom has been cleaned since before the little princess was born.  Anyone?  Anyone at all?  No?  No problem. :)  I'm planning to ask my wonderful parents to help, and because they are the wonderful, giving people that they are, I'm sure they will do everything they can.

My first Mother’s Day has come and gone.  It was nice.  We went out to dinner but didn’t have reservations so we had to wait for about an hour for this one Indian restaurant that we like.  The food was good though.  And we got cupcakes and discovered a t-shirt store with some cool local shirts while we waited.  However, I haven’t gotten my Mother’s Day card yet (hint hint HINT, husband).

I never thought I’d be evaluating the effectiveness of diapers, but here I am.  My thoughts so far: I like the Huggies.  We started out with Huggies because that’s what the hospital had.  I like the wetness indicator on the Little Snugglers.  The Pampers, however, seem to fit a little better right now in the same size.  I’ve used Pampers Baby Dry and Huggies Snug and Dry, and I don’t know if one keeps the mess in better, but neither has the wetness indicator.  I’ll have to try the Pampers Swaddlers and see how those work.  So diapers… yeah.

On a related topic, I’ve never been exposed to so many bodily fluids before in my life.  Waterfalls of diaperless mess of both kinds, spit-up galore, sneezes in the face, it’s just lovely.  But she’s cute enough that I don’t mind at all.
