Fall, Fall, Fall

And it's fall. The leaves are turning yellow and falling, the temperature has dropped, it's rainy, Michigan football has started, and all I can think about is apple cider.

Saturday was a very strange day. After spending over an hour shopping for hamburger buns and brake fluid, we came home to watch the Michigan game. We only got to see one quarter because we were late for the game and then it was canceled because of weather (at least it was a win). Nidhal's friend was planning to come for dinner and he likes meat, so we were planning to grill. Storms were brewing and I told Nidhal that he had maybe 20 minutes to started the grill and get the meat done before the next storm came. Twenty minutes was not enough. He had the grill going and had just put the corn on when the power went out and the wind started blowing like crazy. Sparks were flying everywhere and Nidhal decided it would be a good idea to bring the lit charcoal grill into the house. I convinced him that the best course of action was to pour water on the coals. So then we were sitting in the living room with no power (and thus no news or internet) watching the storm when Nidhal said "maybe we should go to the basement". Now, you know it's serious when Nidhal is the one to suggest this. Normally, I'm the one that freaks out about weather. So we sat for a few minutes in the back corner of our basement (which was leaking) and we waited for the storm to die down. Nidhal's friend had given up on driving here by that point, and so we were alone, hungry (we had barely eaten anything all day), and without a means of cooking (the power-outage was widespread and not short). And to make a long story less long, a friend that had electricity invited us over for food and Food Network, and by the time we got home, the electricity was back on at our place (but it was still off right across the street from us).

I rather like the cool rainyness, but it is sad that summer is officially gone. Nidhal has started classes (we bought his four books for $390 instead of the $670 that the bookstore wanted). I've been applying for jobs, but there is [not] surprisingly little available.
