All Sunshine and Daisies

It's amazing the difference the weather can make. Simply amazing. It is beautiful today. I went outside during my lunch break and sat in the sun for almost 30 minutes. And it's just so wonderful to have the windows open and to have fresh air for once. The basketball team that lives kind of below us (I doubt the whole team lives there, but we've only ever seen them in large groups) is grilling with a charcoal grill and the smell is nice and summery. Nidhal and I had sloppy joes and fries for dinner and we plan to either smoke some shisha on the balcony this evening or go to the park and go for a walk.

Speaking of food, Nidhal said that the sloppy joes that I made were better than my mom's, which makes me happy. It was her recipe, but apparently I'm just a better cook. ;) He also said that about the tacos and the lasagna I made.

So I got my MEASLY $0.13 raise at work. Jerks. I work my butt off and I get the crap raise? Pishaw. They seriously had only praise for me and all I ever hear is how great I am... and then I only got $0.13. Ridiculous.

Now that we're on the topic, customers should mind their own business. I was having a perfectly innocent conversation with one of my bosses (not the one directly above me, but the one above the one above me), and one of the idiot customers thought it was offensive and complained to the manager (the BIG boss) about it. Idiot. There was nothing even remotely bad or wrong or inappropriate about out conversation. No swearing, no sexual content, nothing violent, nothing at all. If I knew who that customer was, I would have given them a piece of my mind. GRR. I didn't get in trouble or anything, but it made me so mad that they did that.

In other work news, everyone thinks I'm awesome because I called out one of the bosses on the fact that they do nothing.

...BEAUTIFUL weather.

Happy Birthday, Ross!

Exploring Detroit

Nidhal and I went to Detroit today. We started in downtown and drove down Jefferson through Grosse Pointe until St Clair Shores. Crossing into Grosse Pointe was like entering into a different world. Those people have to be crazy rich. It's sickening. The lake (Lake St Clair) was quite beautiful and also bigger than I expected. On the way home, we stopped in Dearborn for lunch. It was a very good day.

Apparently About Food

Last weekend was unexpected. First, we thought we were going to have Tina here for a night and Brianna here for dinner a different evening. And then we were planning to leave on Sunday for home (doctor and such). But then we learned on Friday that both of these things, unfortunately, were not going to happen this weekend. So the weekend went from being full and nice to empty and sad (ok, not that sad, because any day off is a good day off). I thought, we should go home on Saturday then and get another day with the family. But then we ended up having coffee with Tina yesterday evening (which was very pleasant... I love you, Tina!), and making plans for a Sunday lunch. So home again on Sunday. In the mean time, Nidhal and I had made some loose plans for Saturday afternoon only to get a call from Alex last night suggesting a lunch meeting. Of course that sounds wonderful (we love Alex, too), and therefore, the weekend went from full to empty to full in the course of one day.

We had lunch with Alex at Seva, a vegetarian restaurant on Liberty. It was really really tasty. Nidhal had couscous, which tasted Morrocan. I had a vegetable and goat cheese sandwich, and that was also very good.

Tonight we're eating liver, which is a stretch for me. I've tried kidneys before, and they tasted like pork. And now it's liver... I don't know, I don't know.
